This tutorial assumes that you have a working knowledge of PSP. I used PSP X3 to write this tutorial but it should work with other versions of PSP as well.

Masks By Rachel's Design (Set 53 mask 4 Set 44 mask 3)Available Here

Legend: C/P Copy Paste / D/S Drop Shadow default setting: 3 -3 58 7.92 / bg: background /
E Element / R Resize / Unsharp mask Settings: 3 30 3 (Use after resizing if the image looks grainy or blurry   S/F/D: Select All, Float, Defloat

I try to write my tutorials as plain and clear as possible, but if I get you confused (and, if I do, I am sorry) you can always refer back to the image we are making for reference. Also, this is just a guideline (I write where I place the elements ) but, feel free to move them around, or add different elements. Have fun and experiment, it is the best way to learn new things.
What we are Making:

Tutorial Instructions: Geisha Beauty


Background / Frame

  • New Image 700 X 700
  • Flood Fill white
  • New Layer Select All
  • Open pp 1 and 5
  • Select All C/P pp 1 into selection
  • Mask RR_Mask Set 53 - 4
  • New Layer - select all - c/p pp 5 into selection
  • Mask RR_Mask Set 44-3
  • Close mask layer
  • C/P Frame 1 as new layer R 90%
  • with magic wand select outside of frame selection invert select modify contract 5
  • C/P pp1 new layer paste into selection Move under frame layer
  • On frame layer click inside of frame modify selection expand 5
  • New layer C/P pp5 into selection.
  • Move beneath frame layer
  • Layers should be red paper - cream colored paper - frame
  • C/P tube as new layer - Move tube down until face is nicely framed within the frame
  • On red paper layer beneath frame select all - invert
  • Back on tube layer - clear
  • Change blend mode to hard light
  • Erase area of tube that shows within the frames weave
  • Duplicate tube layer - change blend mode to screen
  • Merge Visible
  • Frame layer R 78% then R 80% move to upper right change blend mode to Luminance L
  • Duplicate - change blend mode to screen
  • Merge Visible
  • Open mask layer
You can now delete the white layer

Using Elements


  • E 21 R 75% Move to upper left below mask layer
  • C/P E 66 - duplicate place one on the left side. Move one to right move under the frame layer
  • C/P E 48 R 75% move upper left
  • E 29 R 90 Font: Chinese Take Out 48%
  • C/P Tube (if using the one I am) R 75% X 4 Mirror
  • C/P E 39 R 58%
  • E 33 Move to lower left
  • E 63 R 75%
  • E 54 R 80%
  • E 31 R 45%
  • E 55 R 52%
  • C/P E20 R 50% X 2 duplicate a couple of times and place flowers around on the canvas.
  • C/P E 5 R 52% Place behind Buddha statue C/P e 5 again R 40%
  • Close mask layers and all layers above the tube - including the tube
  • Merge Visible
  • Close the merged layer open all layers above the tube - merge visible
  • Open all layers except for the mask layers
  • bottom layer (the one merged first) R 95%
  • Merge Visible R 90%
  • Open up the mask layers
  • Resize now if you are going/want to

Finishing up


We are now done except for ading your copyright and license info and adding your name. I used Chinese Takeaway size 48 #a6342a/#e2c25e background - gradient settings linear 0 0 I then added an inner bevel and EC 5 Impact gradient glow. Save as PNG.
